Anti-dumping duty

Anti-dumping duty is an additional duty imposed by the UK on certain imports from specific countries. It is often charged at very high rates in an attempt to deter those particular goods being imported. It is intended to protect UK industry from unfair cheap competition from overseas, but it also often hits innocent importers who were unaware that these charges would apply.

 

The list of products on which ADD is levied is constantly under review. Typical goods and countries include:

  • Aluminium foil from China
  • Bicycles from various countries
  • Bicycle parts from China
  • Ceramic tableware and kitchenware from China
  • Steel and certain steel products from a variety of countries
